Understanding The Tracfone Service

Tracfone Airtime

TracFone airtime is an auxiliary of America Movil. The latter provides wireless facilities that are prepaid in the USA. TracFone airtime ranks sixth among the large operators providing mobile network. It ranks first in the zone of virtual network operations in the mobile industry and currently in March 2007 has more than 8.000 million customers.

Two lines of service are standard with TracFone airtime. A customer can purchase airtime units, which can be used only on pre-approved TracFone cell phones. Some of the cell phones that are offered are Nokia, LG and Motorola. The TracFone airtime service operates on any of the three networks - CDMA, GSM AND TDMA. What network you should choose to use depends on the region of the customer and what types of networks are available.

A TracFone airtime service does not have its own network but it resells services from over 30 other providers. Thus it is an operator of virtual network. In USA Tracfone airtime networks are AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless and Sprint. There are also some others like US Cellular and Alltell.

The customer has to activate his or her cell phone before TracFone airtime service can become operational. Activation can be done by contacting the Hotline number of Tracfone or clicking onto the website of TracFone airtime. Then the programme code has to be entered directly into the cell phone. The alternative is to use the OTA through Radio Waves that are provided by the local tower catering to customers. The customer then has to enter a code that is known as a validation code directly into the set or by using Over the Air (OTA) on the menu, which is prepaid. This is known as the option to Redeem Airtime. Tracfone offers different service plans to fit the needs of each consumer. Some of the plans offer unlimited text messaging for a nominal monthly fee.

In the TracFone airtime scheme the customer has to continue purchasing added units each month before they run out of minutes. This enables the service to be kept active. You can buy different allotments of minutes at a set price. Usually the more minutes that you buy the less the cost is per minute. If however the customer fails to add airtime units before they run out then the services and the number of the phone gets revoked. The customer can recover the number if the TracFone airtime services are reactivated within 60 days.

TracFone airtime services together with all other accessories can be bought at innumerable shops dotted across the USA. Airtime units are generally in the form of cards of various denominations.
